Boot Camp is for everyone who suspects they would enjoy being back on roller skates and is curious about roller derby. There is no commitment to join the league. It’s just to have fun, get a workout, meet Derby Devils and make new friends! The league provides rental skates and the required protective gear throughout Boot Camp for those who do not have their own. Priscilla Thomas Way/Wheat Hill Road.
Boot Camp offers introductory skating and derby training for women and men ages 18 and older.
Camps include instruction and skating starting with orientation and followed by physical challenges on skates.
Upcoming Try Out Dates:
May 21st- 5 PM
October 22nd- 5 PM
All Sunday tryouts are held at the Garden City Gym, 160 Priscilla Thomas Way/ Wheat Hill Road. No registration is necessary.
Skaters must demonstrate confidence and stability while completing the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association’s Minimum Skills Requirements to pass tryouts.
Health insurance is not required to try out. However, members must purchase supplementary insurance through WFTDA in order to join the league. All participants must sign a liability waiver and must wear all WFTDA required gear, including a mouth guard. Participants may borrow SDD gear and the facility’s skates at tryouts.
Most people who are new to skating or to derby do not pass tryouts on the first try. The SDD offers training programs such as Boot Camp and wRECk League to provide preparation for tryouts.
Interested in joining our team of refs and NSOs (non skating officials)? There is always room on Team Zebra and Team Flamingo. If you would like to learn more about what it takes to referee or officiate roller derby, email us at email@example.com.
